The landscapes of Haiti and Guatemala are primarily mountainous. Haiti is the French spelling of the word Ayiti which translates to "land of high mountains" from the Taino Indian language. The name 'Guatemala' comes from the Nahuatl word Cuauhtēmallān 'place of many trees', but is best is known as the "Land of Eternal Spring"

Morning plume at Volcan Pacaya
A little after 9am, Volcan Pacaya released a plume of smoke and just under the surface lava flowed from its crater. The smoke rose to a point and remained there offering a diffused lighting opportunity that seemed to eclipse the Sun
